“For so many of the children Homemade Hope serves, food can be a source of uncertainty,” says Homemade Hope’s Executive Director Blair Bentley in a press release. “These children live in food deserts and don’t get adequate nutrition.” That’s why the Houston non-profit decided to partner with The Greater Houston Texas Restaurant Association (GHTRA)—to design an engaging summer field trip program that allows vulnerable children ages 4–18 to gain insight into Houston’s thriving restaurant industry.

The magazine continues to mention that Homemade Hope students provided their own handmade table decorations at each table while Kroger provided the florals. KTRK Channel 13’s Katherine Whale, served as emcee to the evening, chaired by Adam Greer and Margot Delaronde. The eventful night surpassed its expectations in raising funds for the at-risk children in need.

Houstonia highlighted Luby's plans to host a Jr. Chef's Competition where the winning dish will become a featured menu item with a percent of each dish's sale being donated to Homemade Hope. Homemade Hope's kids will be sous chefs to the finalists as they cook to earn a spot on the menu.

Whole Foods Market selected Homemade Hope to be the beneficiary of their 5% Community Giving Day on August 17th. 5% of all pre-tax dollars spent at both the Voss store and the Post Oak store will be donated to Homemade Hope's programming.

Houston's JW Marriott Main Kitchen hosted Homemade Hope for an afternoon of cooking and a behind-the-scenes peek at life in a professional kitchen. Children made pizzas from scratch with fresh ingredients of their choice after a fun demonstration by Executive Chef Erin Smith and three other Main Kitchen chefs.
